Course Overview
The OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity is not just about being able to play sport, it will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into Higher Education on a sport-related programme.
This qualification is designed to be taken as part of a study programme alongside other vocational qualifications or A-Levels, such as A level Biology and A level Psychology.
Course information:
Year 12
Unit 1: Body systems and effects of physical activity
Unit 2: Sports coaching and activity leadership
Year 13
Unit 3: Sports organisation and development
Unit 8: Organisation of sports events
Unit 18: Practical skills in sport and physical activities.
These units will give learners an understanding of sport in the wider context of coaching and leadership, anatomy and physiology, the body’s short- and long-term effect of physical activity and the framework of sport in the UK and organisation involved. Learners will also develop employability skills including adaptability, communication, leadership, planning, time management and critical thinking. They can also achieve Level 3 Higher Sports Leader Award gaining an extra 16 UCAS points. Examination: Unit 1 and 3 are assessed by external exams. All other units are internally assessed and moderated by the exam board.
Entry Requirements
Students should have achieved at least a grade 4-4 in Science.
It is vital that students are competing in a sport and continue to do so; this is because 30% of the A level grade is practically-assessed.
There is no requirement for students to have completed GCSE PE.
Curriculum Overviews
A level Physical Education is co-taught (combined y12 and 13 classes). This means that, depending on when a student begins the course, they will either cover Paper One or Paper Two topics first.
