Biography
Vikas Agrawal was an exceptional student at English Martyrs Sixth Form College. He was an outstanding mathematician. He joined our school Sixth Form from High Tunstall College. While at English Martyrs Vikas entered a nationwide essay competition on Green Economy for Sunday Telegraph and won the first prize.
Vikas went from English Martyrs Sixth Form College to Cambridge University.
At Cambridge Vikas was best known for his involvement in the Union Society (Debating Society) where he stamped his mark by winning his first year debating competition and was the opening speaker in all nine semesters during his time at the university.
After graduating, Vikas embarked on an incredibly distinguished career as a chartered accountant and was an experienced valuations and corporate finance practitioner with extensive experience of strategic planning and of leading large-scale business and technology transformations. He lived and worked across the world, having been a consultant with Andersen Business Consulting, McKinsey & Company and Navigant.
He worked at Siemens, as Director of Strategy and Innovation at Siemens Business Services and subsequently as Global Engagement Director at Nokia Siemens Networks. At Siemens his biggest achievement was to win a multi-billion-pound contract for his team from the BBC for Siemens to upgrade and modernise the technology across the BBC.
The most prominent and widely recognised project of his and his team’s) work at the BBC was the development of BBC i-Player.
The Bursaries
Bursaries up to the value of £500 per year of study are available to the brightest and the best mathematicians in order for you to study Mathematics A Level at The English Martyrs Sixth Form College.
Two Vikas Agrawal Bursaries will be awarded each year – each to the total value of £500. These will be paid in 2 x £500 instalments at the end of each successful year of study.

Applications should take the form of a letter of one side of A4, which sets out your progress, attainment and passion for Mathematics and your future ambitions for Sixth Form and beyond. Letters of application should include the name and contact details of a professional referee who can verify your aptitude and further potential in Mathematics.
